Also suitable as a towing refresher if its been a while since you have last towed a trailer, horsebox or caravan and already have the entitlement to tow.
Looking to tow a trailer, horse box or caravan Torbay School of Motoring will teach you everything you will need to know to pass the Towing course B+E to allow you to tow legally.
The B+E trailer towing test is based on the LGV driving test and has a duration of an hour and half. The B+E car and trailer test does not require a medical or theory test.
The B+E test consists of the following requirements:
- The ability to carry out safety checks on your vehicle and trailer.
- The drive (LGV standard)
- Uncoupling and recoupling
- Reversing exercise
You will find the tuition professional, patient and friendly. You will be taught with skill, confidence and safety to pass your Towing Course. Torbay School of Motoring will provide the vehicle and trailer for all Trailer training and for the test purposes. The vehicle and trailer are fitted with all safety features as well as being the correct dimensions and weights to meet the specification required for the test.

Is it worth the risk?
The penalties for towing without a valid licence – 9 points, maximum fine of £5000, possible impounding of vehicle and trailer and you will be invalidating your insurance.
If you passed your driving test on or after the 1st January 1997, you will need to pass a separate test (Licence B+E) to tow a trailer, horse box or caravan weighing over 750kg MAM and where the MAM of the combination of towing vehicles in category B and trailer exceeds 3500kg. There is no minimum age to take the test although you will need a driving licence.
MAM is the Maximum Authorised Mass, also known as the gross vehicle weight. Its the weight of the trailer/ vehicle plus the maximum permitted payload.
